Robotics and Intelligent Systems Inaugural Issue and High-Quality Development Symposium Successfully Held in Shanghai

Aug 11,2026

Sponsored by Shenyang Institute of Automation (SIA) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), the inaugural launch and high-quality development symposium for the new international academic journal Robotics and Intelligent Systems (RIS) was successfully held in Shanghai on August 2, 2026.

Supported by CAS’s Special Initiative for First-Class Journal Development, RIS has completed its ISSN registration and assembled a high-caliber international editorial board. The journal’s official website and manuscript submission system are fully operational, with its inaugural issue scheduled to be released in the autumn of 2026. Focused on publishing groundbreaking research across robotics and intelligent systems, RIS serves as an open interdisciplinary platform for disseminating landmark innovative discoveries and fostering global academic collaboration and exchange within this cutting-edge discipline.

Professor LIU Lianqing, Deputy Director of SIA, delivered the opening remarks, expressing gratitude for the support and contributions of the attending experts. He emphasized that as a key component of CAS's journal cluster strategy, RIS aims to provide a premium platform for high-level research outputs and is committed to ensuring that outstanding achievements are first published in Chinese journals.

Professor YU Haibin, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering(CAE) and researcher at SIA, serves as the Editor-in-Chief of RIS. He stated that RIS will adhere to a differentiated positioning, with a focus on cutting-edge directions such as embodied intelligence, while continuously improving academic quality, optimizing publishing services, and building brand reputation. At the meeting, Professor YU presented certificates of appointment to the attending academicians and editorial board members.

Professor LIU Hao, Executive Deputy Editor-in-Chief of RIS, delivered a work report on the journal. He introduced that leveraging SIA's research strengths and the publishing experience of the journal Robot, RIS will focus on the interdisciplinary frontier of AI empowering robotics, robotics expanding intelligent systems," and explore innovative publishing models such as open data and algorithm repositories.

The symposium brought together more than 50 leading experts in the field, including academicians from the CAS, the CAE, and the European Academy of Sciences(EurASc),as well as scholars from leading domestic universities. Participants offered active recommendations and constructive suggestions for the journal's development.

Moving forward, the RIS editorial board will fully incorporate expert feedback and strive to establish the journal as a globally leading academic publication in the field, contributing to the development of China's independent academic publishing platforms and enhancing China's voice in the international academic community.
