The Industrial Control Network and System Department primarily focuses on the development of key technologies and the promotion of industry applications in areas related to intelligent manufacturing, including sensor networks, on-chip systems, industrial safety control, IC equipment control, smart grids, and intelligent measurement. The department has taken the lead in developing the EPA, WIA-PA, and WIA-FA series standards with independent intellectual property rights, which are all adopted as international standards by International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).

The department is the main supporting institution of Liaoning Liaohe Laboratory and International Joint Research Center for Industrial Internet of Things Technology of Ministry of Science and Technology, and has established long-term cooperative relationships with universities, institutes and companies around the world.
