The IEC62601: Wireless Networks for Industrial Automation-Process Automation (WIA-PA), of which the R&D is presided over by Shenyang Institute of Automation (SIA), the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), has passed a joint voting held by International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC), making it an official European standard.

“It means that China’s industrial wireless products be granted ‘entry permission’ into European market.”, said Liang Wei, researcher from Shenyang Institute of Automation, “It will lower the manufacturing cost of Chinese enterprises, shorten the time between product R&D and certification, bringing China’s industrial wireless products and those of foreign brands to the same starting line. “

With self-owned intellectual property rights, the WIA-PA was approved by IEC as publicly available specifications (IEC/PAS 62601) in 2008. The standard has gained recognition from both China and abroad in overall technology level, system scale and application category, etc. It is the key technology in the fusion of industrialization and informationization, and will help lower the risk in industrial automation.

As a technology hotspot of industrial automation, industrial wireless network technology is highly concerned by European and other Western advanced industrial countries, and used as a main method to reduce the overall energy consumption in industrial processes.
