The project “Alloy Composition Online Analyzer Based on LIBS” under the theme project of 863 Program on Advanced manufacturing technology field "High-end and special instrument and meter development" undertaken by Shenyang Institute of Automation (SIA), Chinese Academy of Sciences, successfully passed technical acceptance organized by High Technology Research and Development Center, the Ministry of Science and Technology on June 19th 2015.
At the meeting, the expert groups listened to the report of researcher Sun LanXiang, who is in charge of the project, reviewed the relevant information and watched the video of application spot as well as visited the simulation demonstration scene. After serious discussion of the panel, they thought that the project completed well the research contents of the mandate, achieved the goal of the project and can satisfy the requirements of the technical index requirement of the subject and agreed to pass it.
The detection and control of composition, known as the eyes of the production process, are critical to guarantee the quality of products in the process of metallurgical production. However, the current the detection method of composition is mostly off-line, resulting in the composition control lag, and is the bottleneck to improve product quality and reduce energy consumption. The LIBS research group of Shenyang Institute of Automation resolved the key technologies problem, like capturing signal effectively under the environment of high temperature and high dust, the obstacle of measurement due to surface slag layer as well as feature extraction and separation with interference of the complex spectral signal. Besides, they have developed the LIBS alloy composition analyzer applied to on-line analysis of liquid metal component and carried out corresponding demonstration application in converter workshop at Fushun New Steel Co., Ltd. That the analyzer can obtain the elemental concentration of liquid steel within a minute, which is a revolutionary progress compared to the existing offline detection method. According to enterprise’s estimation, the detection technology can cut down on the cost of material and energy more than 10 million yuans per year.
The project team has reached a cooperation with many enterprises and would do application promotion work in the steel, aluminum alloy, copper alloy and other metallurgical field. The promotion of this technology has great meaning of importance on improving the development ability of on-line detection instrument and meter and improving the production efficiency of our country's metallurgical industry.
