The information gathering system based on WIA industrial wireless communication technology developed by Shenyang Institute of Automation (SIA), the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) has been put into application in Shenbei New District of Shenyang recently, expected to conduct smart meter reading covering about 100 residential areas in the district. At present, the 15,000 smart meters of the first batch have been installed.
The project is co-conducted by Shenyang Institute of Automation and Shenyang Power Supply Company of Liaoning Electric Power Company Limited. Based on the WIA industrial wireless communication technology with complete independent intellectual property rights, the system can support large scale network and independently organize networks with high reliability and high reading and receiving efficiency. It is also convenient to install and maintain the system. Industrial sensor network technology, mobile communication network technology and Ethernet are integrated into the system.
After the successful installment of the smart meters, researchers from SIA went to the residential areas to conduct trial and adjustment, guaranteeing the complete coverage of the electricity utilization information gathering system.
