Title:
Development and utilization of Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) and related analytical techniques

Abstract:

The development and utilization of laser-ablation based analytical techniques as LIBS, double-pulse LIBS, LIBS plus Laser-Induced Fluorescence Spectroscopy (LIFS), remote LIBS, and Laser-Ablation Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) at Brno University of Technology (Brno, Czech Republic) and Masaryk University (Brno, Czech Republic) will be discussed. Complimentary techniques used by the group for structural studies of selected solid samples, as e.g. X-ray microtomography will be also mentioned. The scientific problems planned to be addressed in the frame of common Chinese-Czech project “Development of calibration-free quantitative laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS)” will be shortly introduced.

Dr. Jozef Kaiser is an associate Professor of Brno University of Technology,Czech Republic, and he is the head of the LIBS laboratory, Institute of Physical Engineering, Brno, Czech Republic. His Research and teaching activities are in the area of capillary discharges, plasma generation and study, soft X-ray lasers, theoretical models of discharges, laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS), laser- induced fluorescence spectroscopy (LIFS), X-ray microradiography and microtomography. Dr. Jozef Kaiser has more than 10 years of experience with research and education in the field at Brno Universityof Technology.
