Sensorized Instrumentation and Applications

Abstract:

Several recently developed sensorized instruments will be presented and discussed in this talk. These instruments include a contact-based optical surface texture sensor, a medical palpation sensor, and a piezo-based microforce sensor. The related applications of these instruments will also be introduced.

Yantao SHEN received the B.Eng. degree in mechanical and electronic engineering and the M.Eng. degree in mechatronic control and automation, both from Beijing Institute of Technology,China, in 1994 and 1997, respectively. He received his Ph.D. degree specializing in sensor-based robotic systems from The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2002. Dr.SHEN was a research associate in the Department of Electrical and Computer Enginering, Michigan State University. He joined the University of Nevada, Reno, in January 2008 and currently is an assistant professor in the Depatment of Electrical and Bilmedical Engineering. Dr.SHEN has published more than 60 papers in professional journals and conference proceedings and is a co-inventor on 4 patents. He was also a finalist of Best Vision Paper Award at IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation in 2001, a finalist of Best Paper Award of the 2007 16th IEEE International symposium on Robot and Human Interactive Communication, and a winner of the T.J.Tarm Best Paper Award at IEEE International Conerence on Tobotics and Biomimetics in 2009
