Title:

Historical overview of mobile robot chassis development and Science and Technology ROCAD-ROVER Center participation in this process

 

Science and Technology ROCAD-ROVER Centre were launched by specialists in the field of mobile (planetary) robotics from Russian Transport Machinery Engineering Institute – VNIITRANSMASH (St. Petersburg, Russia) in 1990s. Almost all the previous mobile platforms of the Soviet planet rovers were developed in VNIITRANSMASH, such as the first “Lunokhod-1” propulsive apparatus, PROP-M micro Mars rover, etc.

 

The main task of the center is to developspecial platform configuration in order to provide effective operation of the whole vehicle according to the environment and application conditions. A large experience has been acquired during almost 40yearsintheareas of(electro)mechanics (design/configurationofthelocomotionsystemsandon-board manipulators) and terra-mechanics (interaction of vehicle with terrain, the matters of negotiability) of the planet rovers.

 

The main focus of its work includes conception, development, pilot manufacturing and testing of robotics, scientific devices, locomotion systems, technical/scientific consultations and engineering services in these areas.
