Upon the invitation of the State Key Laboratory of Robotics, professor Shinichi Hirai from the Robotics Departmetn of Ritsumeikan University in Japan visited Shenyang Institute of Automation (SIA), the Chinese Academy of Sciences on June 9th 2015.
During the visit, Shinichi Hirai made an academic report named Researches on Tensegrity Robots by Strut Driving to the researchers and graduate students of State Key Laboratory of Robotics who attended the lecture.
In his report, Professor Shinichi Hirai introduced the research works of Ritsumeikan University on the structure improvement of tensegrity robots and its control method He also gavecomparison and analysis on driving characteristics between the Tensile Element Driving and Strut Driving. After the report, Shinichi Hirai answered the questions raised by the participants.
During the visit, Shinichi Hirai and company had a discussion in depth with researcher LiBin of State Key Laboratory of Robotics, professor Lu Zhenli from Changshu Institute of Technology, assistant researcher ChangJian and Dr. Du Wenjuan, etc. on optimization design of mechanism parameter for variable structure robot based on electric drive mode as well as kinematic mechanism analysis and multi gait rolling prediction approaches and other theoretical methods and technologies.
Shinichi Hirai had been a professor in Ritsumeikan University Robotics Department since 2002. In 2011, he was employed at the Chinese Academy of Sciences as distinguished researcher among foreign experts.Hismain research fields include the modeling and control of deformable object, flexible finger operation, foot modeling, modeling of the eye, flexible robot with crawling and jumping ability, manipulation of tiny objects and micro pneumatic device, etc. He also serves as deputy editor of Journal of the Robotics Society of Japan, , associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Robotics as well as Journal of Society of Instrument and Control Engineers.
