Invited by Shenyang Institute of Automation (SIA), the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Professor Shinichi Hirai from Laboratory for Integrated Machine Intelligence of Ritsumeikan University in Japan visited the institute during November 6th to 8th, 2014.
During his stay in Shenyang, Shinichi made a report named Researches on Tensegrity Robots, introducing the research conducted by Ritsumeikan University in tensegrity robot. He also discussed with researchers from the department on theoretical method and technology of motion mechanism and embedded air pump, etc, of the variable structure robot.
Shinichi was appointed Chinese Academy of Sciences Visiting Professorship for Senior International Scientists (CAS Visiting Professorship) in 2011. His current research interests include modeling and control, soft finger operation, micro-object manipulation, and micro diaphragm-driven equipment, etc, of variable structure objects. He also serves as deputy editor-in-chief of Journal of the Robotics Society of Japan, IEEE Transactions on Robotics, and Journal of Society of Instrument and Control Engineers.
