Recommended by Shenyang Institute of Automation (SIA), the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Liu Na, a Ph.D. candidate of the institute won the BHP Billiton Student Scholarship for the year 2014. His tutor, Li Wenrong and Liu Lianqing, got the Tutor Research Award.
Dedicated to research in nano material and manufacturing, Liu Na has made ground-breaking progress in light-induced nano-manufacturing by integrating multi-discipline such as chemistry and physics, based on engineering thinking. Meanwhile, her research has opened up brand new application in biological science. Related works were published on Lab on a Chip, IEEE Transactions on Nanotechnology, etc. Liu Na has applied one patent and published two papers at conferences. She also won China’s national scholarship in the year 2014.
BHP Billiton, a diversified resource company in Australia, and the graduate school of CAS jointly established the BHP Billiton Scholarship in 2005. Each year, 25 winners are chosen from among postgraduate students of CAS, and tutors of the winners will get the Tutor Research Award accordingly. Until this year, eight postgraduate students from SIA have won the scholarship.
