Invited by the State Key Laboratory of Robotics, Song Dezhen, associate professor from the Texas A&M University in the United States visited Shenyang Institute of Automation (SIA), the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) on July 3rd, 2013. During his visit, he made a report titled Collaborative Observation of Natural Environments.

In his report, Song introduced the application of networked robot and video image processing in natural environment observation, the application of modern video and telecommunication technology in detecting certain flying birds, and autonomous motorcycle system, etc. Song’s researches provide brand new study and observation method for field biology research.

Song obtained his Ph.D degree from the University of California, Berkeley, in 2004. He won the Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Award by the National Science Foundation of the United States in 2007. Currently, he serves as associate professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Texas A&M University. Dedicated to the research in networked robotic technology and video image processing, he has published over 60 papers in top international journals. As project leader, Song is chairing several projects under the Natural Science Foundation (NSF) of the United States. He also serves as associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Robotics and associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Automation Science and Engineering.
