Invited by Li bin researcher from Shenyang Institute of Automation (SIA), the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Professor Shinichi Hirai from Laboratory for Integrated Machine Intelligence of Ritsumeikan University in Japan visited SIA in May.
Shinichi was appointed Chinese Academy of Sciences Visiting Professorship for Senior International Scientists (CAS Visiting Professorship) in 2011, and has been conducting research on variable structure robot with Li bin and Wang Minghui from SIA since then.
During his visit, Shinichi introduced the research progress of his laboratory on rod adjustment method and leaping gait of variable structure robot. Li Bin introduced the research progress made on motion mechanism, simulation system, and principle prototype of variable structure robot by the Robotics Laboratory of SIA. He also demonstrated the applications of transformable ruins search and rescue robot and robotic life-detector in the research and rescue mission after the 7.0-magnitude earthquake hit Lushan County on April 20th. Shinichi also discussed with related staff from the Personnel and Education Department of SIA about how to attract talents in Japan to perform academic exchanges with SIA researchers.
