Eiichi Yoshida, Managing Executive Officer of Japan’s IHI Corporation visited Shenyang Institute of Automation (SIA), the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) on October 29th, 2012, strengthening the corporation between the two sides in laser welding technique. Eiichi Yoshida also serves as vice director of the Operation and Globalization Strategy Department of IHI, and the head of IHI China division.

Liang Bo, vice director of SIA and Zhao Mingyang, professor from the SIA’s Advanced Equipment Department attended the meeting. Eiichi Yoshida spoke highly of the cooperation between IHI and SIA during the past eight years, and expected more joint works in the future. Liang Bo welcomed the guests and hoped the two sides deepen cooperation in laser welding and seek new joint R&D programs in agriculture and logistics, etc. Professor Zhao Mingyang discussed with the guests the current R&D stage of the No.2 sample machine of laser tailored welding.

Starting up as a shipyard, IHI is now a heavy industry equipment manufacturing cooperation that operates globally. By fully tapping into its experience in mechanical engineering, IHI is dedicated to ground mechanical equipment manufacturing as well as that of aerospace industry, etc. In 2005, the “SIA-IHI Joint Research and Development Center” was established; it mainly conducts joint R&D for laser tailored welding production line programs. In September, 2006, SIA successfully developed the first No.0 sample machine of fully-automatic laser tailored welding production line in China. Researchers in SIA are now dedicated to the R&D of the No. 2 sample machine.
