Ribbon-cutting ceremony for the automatic tailored blank laser welding line, first of its kind in China, was successfully held in (SIA) on the morning of September 27, 2006.
The equipment was jointly developed by Shenyang Advanced Equipment Research and Design Center, SIA and Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries Co., Ltd (IHI). As the first automatic equipment for tailored blank laser welding in China, it is a special contribution to the development of advanced manufacturing equipment in China.
The equipment is mainly composed of a welding machine controller, a laser oscillator and an image viewer. Additionally, several robots are used as welding head travel device and part loaders. The laser oscillator has a high power of 4 KW. This equipment can automatically butt-weld tailed blanks of different materials, different thicknesses and even different coatings. Compared to conventional blanks, tailor welded blanks have better mechanical properties and can satisfy stringent demands from applications.
Laser manufacturing technologies, especially technologies for tailored blank laser welding, have been indispensable technologies in advanced manufacturing since the beginning of the twenty-first century. Tailored blank laser welding technologies play important roles in the manufacturing of steel and automobiles, and can be applied widely to many other areas due to its outstanding advantages.
