Certificate of the Best Student Paper Award
Recently, a group of employees and graduate students of the Shenyang Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences (SIACAS) attended the 2024 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (IEEE ICRA 2024) in Yokohama, Japan, including LIU Lianqing and ZENG Peng, both Deputy Director of Shenyang Institute of Automation. LIU Lianqing was invited to give a keynote talk. Doctoral student YANG Lianchao's paper won the Best Student Thesis Award.
The papers of SIACAS accepted by the conference cover the latest achievements in bio-syncretic robots, surgical robots, rehabilitation robots, industrial automation, and other fields. In his keynote talk, LIU Lianqing introduced the representative progress made by the institute in the perception, driving, and intelligence research of bio-syncretic robots that integrate living systems and electromechanical systems, and also provided a systematic outlook of the research.
YANG Lianchao, a doctoral student from the micro nano research team of SIACAS, was nominated for three awards at the IEEE ICRA: Best Paper on Mechanisms and Design, Best Student Paper, and Best Conference Paper, and ultimately won the Best Student Paper Award. This paper elaborates on the research conducted by the team on the difficulties faced by skeletal muscle actuator size expansion and performance improvement in the research of bio-syncretic robots. Researchers have conducted research on the optimized design and fabrication of skeletal muscle actuators inspired by the serial parallel structure of muscle cells in skeletal muscle tissue of living organisms. The constructed skeletal muscle actuators have been applied to the integration and driving of bio-syncretic robots. The experiment has verified the advantages of the proposed method for constructing bioactuators in robot driving, and the results will help promote the improvement of driving performance and practical development of bio-syncretic robots.
IEEE ICRA is one of the most influential international academic conferences in the field of robotics, which has been held for 40 years with the aim of promoting the development and application of robotics and automation technology. (Department of Robotics)
