Initiated by the National Natural Science Foundation, the Strategic Seminar on Robotics Development kicked off at Shenyang Institute of Automation, the Chinese Academy of Sciences on September 12th, 2014. Over 30 experts in robotics discussed around major demands for robotics, prioritized development fields, talent cultivation and international cooperation during China’s 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-20).
Wang Tianran, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) chaired the seminar. The participating experts included Yu Haibin, director of SIA, Liang Bo, deputy director of SIA, Xi Ning, selected applicant of the CAS Thousand Talents Program, Sun Fuchun, Wang Tianmiao, professor from Beihang University, etc.
There is a general consensus among experts about the fundamental impact of robotic technology on manufacturing industry, human life and military. Some of the experts elaborated on the tendency of robotic technology integrating with human society on the levels of mission, behavior and intelligence. Based on the current situation of China’s robotic technology development, experts discussed about direction, opportunity and challenges of robotic technology development of the National Natural Science Foundation during the 13th Five-Year Plan.
