He Dong, regional manager of Aldebaran Robotics Company in France, visited Shenyang Institute of Automation (SIA), the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) on May 22nd, 2013. He brought with him a programmable humanoid robot named NAO to researchers and students of SIA.

During his visit, He Dong, introduced the NAO humanoid robot developed by the French startup company. Nao Robot is 58 centimetres in height and 4.8 kilograms in weight. NAO uses four microphones to track sounds, and its voice recognition and text-to-speech capabilities allow it to communicate in 8 languages. The 25 joints of the robot are all made according to human body, so that it can flexibly imitate the actions of human beings. With over 100 sensors in its body, the Nao robot can receive the directions of human beings and give response according to environment. It can also tell the emotions of human beings through their body languages and facial expressions by using two cameras. As an open platform, the robot can be applied in the fields of computer science, mathematics, physics, artificial intelligence, machine automation, communication engineering, psychology, medical care, etc.
